Just keep swimmin'

Wow! Where did July come from? We've been super busy fundraising (over halfway to our goal- thank you everyone!!), swimming, fundraising, and swimming. We've been awesome with neglecting this blog and wanted to share a few updates.
We had the chance to experience Brigadoon in June, including a lake swim or treading wate rin the lake.
Nancy has returned to NS and joined the Mermaid Mamas. We're now a pretty awesome training team of 3.
We're out of the pool and into the lakes, into the land of neoprene and adjusting to swimming in open water. Lots of adjustments, lots of learnings. We're fortunate to be part of a robust Facebook group of past and current swimmers that share tips, tricks, strategies, swim times and everything under the sun swimming related.
Trying to learn how and what to eat when swimming, learn how to stay hydrated, work on the mental stamina, show up and swim when it's the last thing we want to do- all are part of our world right now. We're learning how to repair neoprene tears, the best way to put on a wetsuit, how comfy they are to drive in and how crappy it is when goggles don't stay clear.
We've all quit, at least once, sometimes in our heads and sometimes out loud. We've thrown up at the pool, in the lake. We've lost goggles, flippers. Bathing suits are wearing out, patience is short at times and the sight of lake grass makes us all jump.
It's about distance these days, building stamina, counting km (not laps and lengths) and pushing ourselves past our comfort zone. It’s about having fun and making the most out of the time we can get in the lake. It’s about swimming to the dock when we want to stop at the buoys.
Swims now take 2-3 hours, chaffing is occurring, our hair is never dry. We're spending more time with each other and in the lake then with most other relationships in our lives.
We've had amazing support from so many people. The contributions, the encouraging notes, the donated items to our event- thank you thank you!
We have a few more fundraising events coming up, check them out. Our hope (fingers and toes crossed) is that we meet our goal soon, and are able to focus on the swim. The never ending swim. The swim that looks about 3 inches on paper and that we will accomplish stroke by stroke.
For now, we'll just keep on swimmin'
